Daddy, My Friends Said I Was Lying

Published November 15th, 2017 by Craig Kaler

Daddy, My friends said I was a liar.

Your kids know what you teach them. I’m just like you and love my daughter more than anything else in the whole world. I watch her as she sleeps and hug her without her waking. She’s always priority #1 no matter what else is going on in my life. A few nights ago she was helping me cook dinner (one of my favorite things we do) and we had the most amazing talk. Although our conversation was amazing it threw up a major red flag about what some of her classmates think HEALTH is. She started our conversation by asking me if she was as healthy as her friends? Inquiring about what prompted that question she told me that a couple of her friends called her a liar today. They didn’t believe her when she told them that she had never had an antibiotic. It seems they had quite the discussion at school. They told her that there is no way that you can be as healthy as us you haven’t had any antibiotics. They told her she was lying and you can’t live without taking antibiotics. Her and I then proceeded to have the most mature conversation about the abuse of drugs and medication in our society. We talked about the use of drugs, our empty bathroom medicine cabinet and what it truly means to be healthy. Don’t get me wrong. If my daughter ever truly needed an antibiotic I’d be the first to give it to her. She’s in 5th grade and has only missed a handful of school days since kindergarten. She gets colds like every child and she does get congested from time to time. When she doesn’t feel well we just handle it differently in our home. As a mater of fact she had fever yesterday, asked me to check her spine for nerve stress, got a chiropractic adjustment and was in school the very next day. What? If your a parent and would love that, comment below. There are natural solutions and courses of action for almost everything. This blog is not about that.

What it is about hit me between the eyes while I was on a plane this weekend. We have a whole society of kids being robbed of the understanding that their bodies cannot be well without taking drugs and without going to the doctor. Think about that for a moment. If they start out taking a pill every time they have a problem before they are even 10 years old, what’s going to happen to them, as they get older? What’s going to happen to them when they have a bad week and they are experiencing a bout of the melancholies and the doctor recommends an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication? This is not about bashing medicine! It’s about our children growing up in a world that has a chemical solution for everything!

There is no doubt pharmaceuticals have saved many lives. But all you have to do is turn on your computer to see how many people lost their lives last year from “PROPERLY” prescribed medication. In 2016 more than twice as many people died from properly prescribed medication than in car accidents in the United States. About 2,460 people per week are estimated to die from drugs that were properly prescribed in the United States. https://health.usnews.com/health-news/patient-advice/articles/2016-09-27/the-danger-in-taking-prescribed-medications
